CBD or cannabidiol is among the hottest wellness trends available on the market these days. You can see it in pharmacies, cafes, and gift shops, sold as oils, tinctures, lotions, soaps, food products, and so on. CBD is also known for its potential ability to treat anxiety, one of the most common mental ailments on the globe today.
CBD And Anxiety
Occasional anxiety is nothing unheard of, and is basically a part and parcel of being alive. Most people experience it to some degree in their lives. Anxiety disorders, however, are characterized by the anxiety not going away; this gets worse as time goes on, and starts interfering with the completion of daily activities, and even relationships and job performance. There are general coping mechanisms such as yoga, meditation, exercise, and deep breathing for low-level anxiety, but the more severe the anxiety, the likelier it is that something more specific needs to be used to combat it. A lot of people swear by CBD oil as an effective treatment in this regard.
There is plenty of anecdotal evidence that CBD has decreased anxiety, but scientific research done on this remains limited at this stage. Only recently did federal regulations loosen up and allow even this much research to be done. Before that, most of the research conducted was on animals or small groups of people. What little has been learned shows that CBD mainly causes a calming effect which acts on the central nervous system.
There is no exact understanding of the way CBD helps lower anxiety. What does seem to be the case is that it binds to and activates a serotonin receptor, causing a mood-boosting effect which calms the user. Even the necessary dosage is not known for this effect to come to pass. Many studies have used 300 to 400 mg/day, while OTC CBD products more or less come with labels suggesting 10 to 15 mg daily intake. In a nutshell, it is still unclear what effects CBD has on anxiety, and more research is needed before anything concrete can be established.
The profusion of positive anecdotal reports, coming in from users from all around, points to CBD potentially being an effective treatment option for anxiety. What little information we have is promising, although it needs to be supplemented with long-term studies. At present, CBD seems mostly safe for human consumption, even though its effects tend to vary depending on the person who is imbibing it.
